Meet Chris Pagdilao, a certified athletic trainer working tirelessly for Maui High School. His journey from childhood dreams to professional fulfillment is a testament to the power of perseverance and following one's calling.
As a child, Chris harbored dreams of venturing into space as an astronaut. However, fate had different plans in store. Over 30 years ago, a chance encounter with his friends Jaime Macias and Derek Asing redirected his trajectory. Their shared love for sports led Chris to discover the world of athletic training, igniting a passion that would shape his future endeavors.
Born and raised amidst the breathtaking beauty of Maui, Hawaii, Chris’s upbringing was steeped in the island's rich culture and vibrant sports scene. From playing baseball under the warm Hawaiian sun to discovering wrestling in 8th grade, Chris’s journey to athletic training was paved with unexpected twists and turns.
It was during a fateful wrestling practice where Chris’s twin brother, Scott suffered an ankle injury that he first encountered the school's athletic trainer. Witnessing the transformative impact of athletic training on his brother's recovery, Chris knew he had found his calling. After graduating from Pacific University in Oregon in 2002, Chris obtained his athletic training certification in Hawaii in the summer of 2002.
For Chris, the essence of athletic training lies in its diversity. Beyond treating physical ailments, it's about building relationships and being a pillar of support for student-athletes. He finds solace in being the person students can confide in, knowing he can make a positive difference in their lives.
“It’s rewarding seeing the kids smile when they come back from an injury and knowing you made a positive impact on them,” says Chris.
Chris’s uniqueness stems from his genuine love for what he does. He believes in advocating for equality within the profession, treating everyone with respect regardless of their role. From administrators to athletes, Chris ensures fairness and equality prevail.
Beyond the confines of the school grounds, Chris's passion for water sports has taken him on thrilling adventures. From working at professional surf contests to traversing international waters, Chris seamlessly blends his love for surfing with his role as a first responder, all while enjoying the waves before the start of a day's work.
As Chris prepares for the next chapter in his journey, a well-deserved retreat to Japan awaits him, where he plans to recharge and refuel his passion before diving back into the bustling school year.
Chris's dedication extends beyond his role to embracing innovative solutions like Kinematic products. The recent acquisition of the SidelinER FLEX has
proven invaluable during track meets, providing both privacy and facilitating treatments for athletes, ensuring their well-being remains a top priority.
